The Guardian – ‘You’ll get a six-pack’: a beginner’s guide to kayaking
Kayaking Sydney Harbour offers one of the most spectacular settings for paddling. We are lucky enough to offer you two locations from which to paddle one of our tours from and both have their highlights and will amaze you.
From overcoming your fears of the water accompanied with the challenge of paddling, feeling the wind against your face and the spray of water, your sense of achievement will be overwhelming as well as feeling great after some gentle exercise on the water.
Just a 10 minute walk from central Sydney, we are located under the Andrew Boy Charlton pool. We have a lockable facility for your bags. We kayak right up to Sydney opera house and behind it with amazing views of the city and harbour bridge.
Our equipment is the best you will find on any tour! You can use either a single or double kayak, which are Australian-made, high quality sit on top kayaks (light and manoeuvrable) and the best quality carbon fiber paddles (expensive and lightweight – the same paddles used by Olympic kayakers!) which you will be shown how to use correctly. Using the best equipment helps make your Kayaking Sydney Harbour experience more enjoyable as it is easier to move through the water and thus use less energy.
Sophie is a qualified kayaking instructor and you will be shown the correct techniques for paddling to ensure your tour is fun and memorable!
We only take direct bookings. This is why our prices are 25% lower than they otherwise would be and you will not find us on any booking sites or through travel agents. We aim to provide the best experience at the best price so we are the best value tour operator. Sophie’s tours are personal and unique in many ways. The only way you will find out is if you decide to come kayaking with her!

TOUR INFORMATION
OzPaddle Sydney City tours start at our meeting point underneath Andrew Boy Charlton pool, near the Domain/Botanical Gardens. From here, we paddle past the naval ships at Garden Island, around the domain with stunning views to Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. From here, we paddle to the Opera House (this is the closest you will be able to get on the water side). The view never ceases to amaze. After a paddle around Farm cove, we either head back or, for the longer tour, we either cross the harbour to a secluded beach or paddle towards Clark Island (depending on wind direction) where we relax and have some refreshments before heading back to the Andrew Boy Charlton Pool where you can shower and perhaps grab a coffee or some more food at the great cafe there.
OzPaddle Rose Bay tours start from our meeting point at the corner of New South Head Road and Vickery Avenue (opposite Rose Bay RSL club). From here, we paddle to Nielsen Park, stopping off at secluded harbour beaches on the way including a visit to historic Strickland House with fantastic views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. At Nielsen Park, there is a kiosk with additional food/coffee if you want to purchase something. Weather dependent, we stop at one of the beaches for a swim and also paddle to Shark Island. You will be amazed at the peace and tranquility which can be found.
Guided tours are available daily subject to weather (early mornings are best due to less wind).
Tours are suitable for beginners to experienced kayakers.
